Never too old... :). We experienced practitioners know that to be true. This 26 & 2 series is accessible to all of us no matter how old we are.
However, what about kids and teens getting the opportunity to practise hot yoga?
The general policy within hot yoga studios has traditionally been that if you are 16 or 17 years old, you can practise with an accompanying adult. However, I would like to review that here at Hot Yoga South to give young people under the age of 16 the opportunity to practise with their parents.
My own kids started their practise with me at age 8 in the hot room, as did other young people in my Brighton studio. My experience and that of parents who brought their kids to Brighton was that this practice can help young people so much through their adolescence years to cope with the mental and physical rigours of tough academic schedules and increasingly complex social lives.
Last month during mid-term break, I scheduled and taught two dedicated classes for kids and teens. The young people who attended were amazing. We did a 45-min class and then explored a few advanced postures (the beauty of a supple young spine!) and had some fun doing handstands.
If any of you would like to bring your child (minimum age 8) or teen to a class to practice with you, then please feel free to attend any classes on the schedule that start between 9.30am and 5.30pm Monday to Friday or any classes on the schedule Saturday and Sunday. Practising the shorter 60-minute class would be a great starting point to acclimatise to the heat and humidity of our hot room. Teenagers 16 and above are welcome to come to the studio without parents.
