I became a hot yoga teacher because hot yoga changed my life. Historically, I’d always been incredibly averse to exercise from quite traumatic experiences growing up in physical education classes. I kept myself busy and active being a costume designer and a professional drag queen: performing and shaking my bum across London and internationally for more than a decade.
Then 2020 hit and my entire life and work was cancelled. I had so much time to explore what it meant to be a fully rounded human being as opposed to just a designer and performer for queer entertainment.
I discovered yoga and everything changed. I was interested in exploring my body’s capacities and discovered the ability to come home to myself. In August of 2020, I took my first hot yoga class and I was amazed I was even able to get through it. A month later a friend invited me to a class and though I completely died during class, I was very enthralled.
The next day I signed up for a 30 day intro offer. The studio I was practicing at had to change the system because I think I took 45 classes in 30 days. I was absolutely hooked.
I was drawn to do the teacher training in 2021 but held off for various reasons, but maintained a very strong practice for 4 years until I saw a scholarship for the training. I applied and won the scholarship for training in 2024.
I graduated in the late fall of 2024 and was the only teacher in my cohort to move directly into teaching public classes. Six weeks later, after teaching the warm-up for Paul’s class, I was hired at HYS.
My goal as a hot yoga teacher is to cultivate the joy and the hardcore happiness through the intensity of the class. I love being able to facilitate people showing up for themselves, providing a space that they can fully be in their bodies and proving to themselves that they can do anything!
I love teaching here, especially for my weekly class on Sunday afternoons. The community is wonderful here: strong practitioners and a gorgeously kind and warm atmosphere.
